A Time to Assess
Come November students will have completed two months of school. This is a great time to assess the situation if things are not going according to plan.
1. Identify Specific Challenges
- Pinpoint the areas where they're struggling, whether it's specific subjects, time management, or understanding class material.
2. Seek Help from Teachers
- Teachers can offer support through extra help sessions, clarifying concepts, and suggesting resources for improvement.
3. Stay Organized
- Create a study schedule to manage time more effectively. Breaking tasks into smaller steps can make overwhelming assignments more manageable.
4. Ask for Tutoring
- Consider seeking tutoring if extra help is needed. At Sylvan Learning, for example, personalized tutoring can help address specific academic issues and build study skills.
5. Talk to a School Counselor
- School counselors can offer advice on how to improve academic performance or manage stress, as well as help with time management.
6. Focus on Improving Study Habits
- Review how and where they study. Make sure there’s a quiet, distraction-free space to work, and consider using study techniques such as active recall and spaced repetition.
7. Join a Study Group
- Studying with peers can provide support, different perspectives on challenging material, and shared accountability.
8. Practice Self-Care
- Ensure they’re getting enough sleep, eating well, and taking breaks. A healthy body and mind are essential for learning effectively.
9. Set Small, Achievable Goals
- Set short-term academic goals to build confidence and measure progress, like improving quiz scores or staying on top of homework.
